Posted in Windows on August 2nd, 2011 by Trev – Be the first to commentI recently ran into an issue with the new Dell OptiPlex 790 that I purchased to update a computer lab. A compatible driver for the Intel 825XX NIC card was not on my Windows PE image. So after some digging around online and flipping through some thick books I was able to add the driver in so I could image the machines. Here are the commands to add a driver to a .WIM image. read more »

How To: Reclaim Account Names in OS X
Posted in Mac on January 12th, 2011 by Trev – Comments OffI have recently discovered that when deleting a user from OS X it isn’t as straight forward as it should be. Not all the information gets removed, even if you tell it to delete the user and the Home Folder contents it still leaves the Account Name behind. So if you are attempting to recreate the user you can’t use the same Account Name because it already exists on the system. Here is how to get rid of it. read more »

AVG reports False Positives
Posted in Windows on October 20th, 2009 by Trev – Be the first to commentI recently was working on a computer that was having some major issues and wanted to scan it for malware/viruses. The computer was unable to connect to the internet so I was attempting to download Malwarebytes Antimalware on my desktop to transfer over to the troubled computer.
The file downloaded quickly and as soon as it finished AVG popped up complaining that the file mbam-setup.exe was infected with Trojan Horse PSW.Banker5.ZOY. It’s difficult to believe that CNET has infected software on their site so upon further investigation it appears that AVG is being hyper critical. It was not only labeling Malwarebytes as a Trojan but other programs like AVAST Antivirus as well.
